Intermittent no start ???
the fuel heater failed a couple years ago. i disconnected it and covered the plug. had to replace the fuse then. it was one of the first things i looked at when this no start thing happened. that fuse and others good, tight, and no corrosion.
i haven't replaced the cmp sensor, because i couldn't prove it bad. when it's disconnected it will leave a code in memory, would do the same thing if it went on the fritz, even temporarily. i would really like to verify a fault before changing something. not trying to be difficult, it's just money is kind of tight.
thanks for everyones time and thoughts. still open for more.
i had an intermittent no-start issue (hot or cold) that i finally traced back to the IPR on the back side of the HPOP. the insulation on the wires had melted off and allowed them to short together ocassionally, causing the no-start. however, it sounded very different when it wouldn't start this way, like the engine was spinning free with not a hint of fuel in it. no white smoke, no stumbling/rumbling like with bad glow plugs. i do have a brand new starter though, so perhaps an older starter wouldn't spin the engine as fast and the difference in sounds might not be noticed.
if you have a scanner, i'd think it would set a code for low HPOP, though. ...i don't have a scanner, so i just unplugged the ICP sensor and it started up fine, so i knew my problem was one of those two sensors (or the HPOP).
