Car question

1997 Taurus Wagon
3.0 v6 automatic

Sorry, it's not a truck but thought someone might be able to help here.

Many times, when I come to a stop the transmission feels like it shifts to neutral and I have to give the car some gas to get it to go. It feels like popping a clutch, not like it is slipping. Other than that, the tranny shifts fine and doesn't slip.

Is there any adjustment I can do to help with this? Any part of the valve body that could be malfunctioning/plugged that might cause this?

Over 200,000 miles on the car and would like to run it as long as I can.

Thanks for the help.

I can't think of anything in the valve body that could do this. There is nothing anywhere on the trans that is adjustable.

If it isn't low on fluid I suspect a worn seal in the forward clutch, or even more likely a cracked forward clutch piston.

Thanks, I respect your thoughts. I guess I will just run it into the ground. It really isn't worth pulling the tranny for. Just hoping it was easy.

Edit: You were spot on, thanks for giving me something to google. Found all the info I need.

No, it isn't the torque converter. It is the forward clutch piston.
