Sure looks like a compressed air boost 'tween the rim and tire, 'cause the air chuck alone won't fill and seat it.

That makes sense. I was fully expecting them to seat it with a can of either and a lighter

It's one of these:
bead seating tank from Northern Tool + Equipment

I've never seen one used, but I have seen them for sale.

After 2 weeks in Argentina, had to say g'bye. In Chile 'till Wednesday. Was great to see all those old vehicles still on the road. Will share pics, but the work computer is giving me the blue screen of death. Luckily, I brought the iPad.

"refuses to give up"? As long as it's running, why would he give up? It will only get worse if it sits in the river.

It sounded like it might have been sucking some water, but not sure. It has a snorkel intake, but that could be leaking. An old school diesel like that would run submerged as long as it could get air.

I didn't realize how much trailer he had behind him until he pulled up the bank.

Question remains in my mind, where was he going to go after he got out there on that sand bar? Back the way he came?
