aluminum intake.....

got my intake polished up and lookin good. i want to try to keep it that way. does anyone know of any trick to keep it from oxidation? maybe some type of sealer or polish. i have seen products to help clean it up, but not to prevent oxidation. i just used wire wheels and a dremel to make it shine. i am thinking about just painting it with high temp aluminum paint. any suggestions?

I tried the high temp paint once and it did start to come off a few months later. Could be i never prepped it right. I saw on here or some place others were trying a clear finish , but i never heard what the results were.

So if you just took all that time and hard work with a Dremel polishing your intake, why in the world would you decide to paint it? Any ways, Mothers Aluminum polish or most any other polish works as a protectant but will never stand up to the consistant heat. You will have to repolish every few months or so.

i think kwe is correct. the heat will cause any waxes OR paint to 'sour" and youll have to keep up on it. edelbrock suggests keeping their intakes clean by using simple green, which is a great cleaning/degreasing product to have on hand anyway.

after the polishing you could clean it really well with acetone, and try some engine enamel clear coat or a VHT header clear coat, that way the metal wont become stained over time but the paint might turn color a bit over time.

There's stuff called Zoop Seal made specifically for this sort of thing. I've never tried myself, but looks promising.

I have tried clear coating with both paint and powder coat. Neither lasted long before peeling off. I think it is due to the fact that the polished aluminum was too smooth. No tooth for the coatings to adhere to. I've seen coated chrome rims do the same thing.
