Mirror help

If anyone has these style mirrors, I would love to see pictures of them on your truck. I believe they are called style 5. When I did all the body work and painted my truck I welded all the old mirror holes and dont want to put the common mirror style back on.

Here is a picture, not mine just found on google.

LMC has them. You may be able to find them cheaper, but the part number is 49-6521. The listed price is 39.95 each.
Here is a picture of them on Pop's Truck before the rebuild began.

Tell me about it , that's just the going rate on ebay, they always sell for around $200 on there.

I too am looking for a set of westcoast mirrors but i refuse to pay ebay prices for them.

My local yard will sell me a pair for $60 but i just need to wait for a set to come in, patience.

1973/79 Western aka West Coast mirrors are not the same as 1967/72. The mounting brackets are different because the door contours are different.

And, 1967/72 & 1973/79: There are two different types. With or without the 3rd steady rest arm. 3rd steady rests have longer arms, so the mirror sticks out well past the cab.

Without the 3rd arms, the mirrors are "Swing-Loks" .. Push the mirror forward, then pull it back, it will lock into position.

The mirror head (C7TZ-17723-A) is the same for all. Genuine Ford: Has three vertical embossed lines, with the center line shorter than the other two.

1973/79: D3TZ-17696-L (reproduced) was the standard equipment mirror, resembles the type used on Passenger Cars.

C7AZ-17696-A was the 1967/72 F100/350 standard equipment version. This mirror (also reproduced) was installed on some cars.

Some repop sellers are calling these two mirrors by the idiotic name: Sports Mirror. FoMoCo never offered any such thing.

There were left & right remote control mirrors offered for 1967/72 F100/350's.

btw: Most people did not want C7AZ-17696-A or D3TZ-17696-L and none were factory installed, were placed inside the cab (in a plastic bag) at final aseembly. Dealers installed all the outside mirrors.

100's of 1000's of these mirrors were THROWN AWAY. Since they did not come in a parts carton with the part number on it, could not be returned to FoMoCo for credit, so the dealers were STUCK with them.

When I was at Crenshaw Motors, we had a huge wooden shipping crate full of these mirrors next to the moulding rack. When the rack was expanded, I threw all the mirrors into the dipsy dumpster!

Maybe Number Dummy can answer this mirror question...

There appears to be two styles of these mirrors. This is the only style I had ever seen come OEM until fairly recently:

But this style appears to have been OEM as well:

Was it simply a matter of which plant the vehicle came from, or something else?

Assembly plants had nothing to do with it. All outside mirrors were installed by the dealers.

15 different types of outside mirrors were offered for 1973/79 F100/350's. FIFTEEN!

When body shops/garages ordered replacement Type 9's, several questions had to be asked. Some shops didn't look, guessed instead. (sigh)

So, some mirrors had to be returned for the correct mirrors.

6 different styles of Type 9 Low Mount Swing-Loks:

1973/77:

1) D4TZ-17696-A .. Outside Mirror / 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" stainless mirror head / FLAT upper/lower mounting brackets / Upper bracket has (2) mounting holes on a 2 3/4" bolt center.

Lower bracket has (2) mounting holes on 2" bolt center / Arm has 7 19/32" span between upper/lower brackets / D4TZ-17723-A .. Mirror Head.

1976/77:

2) D6TZ-17696-A .. Outside Mirror / 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" stainless mirror head / CURVED upper/lower mounting brackets with 2" mounting holes.

Arm has 6 11/16" span between upper/lower brackets / D4TZ-17723-A .. Mirror Head.

1978/79:

3) D8TZ-17682-A .. Outside Mirror / 6" x 9" stainless mirror head / Mirror glass mounts to housing without a gasket / D8TZ-17723-A .. Mirror Head.

4) D8TZ-17682-D .. Outside Mirror / 6" x 9" painted low gloss black D8TZ-17723-D .. Mirror Head.

5) D8TZ-17682-E .. Outside Mirror / 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" stainless mirror head / Mirror glass mounts to housing with a gasket / D4TZ-17723-A .. Mirror Head.

6) D9TZ-17682-A .. Outside Mirror / 6" x 9" stainless mirror head / Mirror glass mounts to housing with a gasket / D9TZ-17723-A .. Mirror Head.

But...1978/79's could have 1973/77 mirrors...cuz dealers would install whatever they had in stock.

Today, 33+ years after the fact, any Type 9 could be installed on these trucks. When some FTE members have asked for these mirrors, I've had to ask the same questions I did 33+ years ago.

And then...there's this bug-a-boo: Similar mirrors were available from autoparts stores! Most are not Swing-Loks, none match the genuine Ford originals.

Just make sure you get the type that the upper/lower mounting brackets match the holes in your doors.

ebay link in post 9: D4TZ-17696-A ~ 30 bucks each is a roaring bargain! Last MSRP each: $98.00 / Dealer cost each: $65.33.

No Ford Dealer obsolete parts vendor has any.
-----------------------------------------------
D6TZ-17696-A = Last MSRP each: $58.33 / Dealer cost each: $35.00.

16 available NOS from 12 FoMoCo Dealers / 2 available from 2 obsolete parts vendors.
