hey everybody,
well heres my issue i bought a edelbrock performer intake off ebay for my 351 windsor......well my problem is the jackass sandblasted the intake so what im wondering is can i paint it with high temp engine paint and be ok?.....and is the sandblasting going to mess with anything, like gaskets sealing or anything like that.....yea i looked down one of the intake runners and there is a mud wasp nest might need to clean that out
I learned along time ago that painting things like your Performer isn't the best thing. Paint gets in the pores of the metal and it can't breath as easy. It also will hold heat longer. On cast parts paint helps only in that they don't rust.
As long as the mating serfaces are smooth an straight it should be ok. As far as painting it aluminum diaspates heat faster than cast iron a little paint won't hurt it, but why would you want to paint it? Its aluminum. Ya know the more horror stories i hear about e-bay the less I think it's such a great place to shop.
I think ebay has to be buyer beware. I haven't had any problems but I'm very careful who I deal with. I also ask lots of questions, even if I know the answer. If the seller is good about answering my questions I will as a rule buy. Rating of seller and comments by others I also pay alot of attention to. There are still some honest sellers on Ebay. I really believe that most problems people run into is not having good communication with seller. Had this person asked alot of questions as to what he was buying, he might of found out alot more about the condition of this manifold. I bought a ring & pinion from a seller this last week. They were responed to my questions very quickly, they had 100% rating. the comments were very positive as both a buyer & seller. I mailed a M.O. so we will see how this comes out. I'm confident it will all work out good.
The seller showed a very clear close-up picture of parts.
as far as the intake choice on the 351w, i woulda gone a different way. i have had great results with the performer intake i put on my 44, but on the 351w we built for a 73 grand torino fastback gt, it was a total mistake!! we finally went with the holley street dominator intake with AWSOME results!! the windsor was mildly built with dome pistons, a 5/8's cam timing gears toyota push rods for strength and the intake and carb, and now she dosent smooth out till 90mph with the fmx behind it. and all this without passing gear even hooked up.
