Gearing question
Gearing question
My tag in the door says 3L for the axel so as I understand it
that is 3.73:1 LS. This is on a 2006 Long Bed Crew Cab 4X4 6.0 PSD.
Will this be easy to tow anything from a small bumper pull
to a larger gooseneck that is loaded up?
This is more research than anything else right now. But planning
for the future uses.
Thanks
Sean

IIRC 3.73s was the only gearing for the 6.0L in SRW, so yeah, it'll tow whatever the SRW platforms are rated at. Stock tires ranged from 31.5" to 34", so the closer you get to that larger size max anbd the heavier the trailer gets the more you'll wish they were deeper.
I personally feel that 4.10s would have been a better option for towing full time just because of where it sets the RPMs at important speeds like 55, 60 and 65, but up to 12-15k the 3.73s are fine, even more so for occasional towing where unloaded economy trumps feeling slugish the one time you load it down. If you're one of those guys who pulls their RV at 80mph, I can't help you. Not because I can't do the math on the gearing, but because you need a lobatamy.
