Just to finish this thread off, Matt/Archion supplied the right heater core. As shown in the first picture, it is the same size as the original core. And, the 2nd pic shows the part #.
I installed it today and it fit perfectly, as shown in this picture:
I am having the same issue trying to find a heater core to fit my 86. The one that was in there looks original and is of the copper variety. I purchased a Spectra 94582 from AZ but it is too tall to fit in the box plus the top is not slanted like the PSHC mentioned earlier in this thread. So to answer your question Luke it doesn't appear to be the same....
Is it possible to get the dimensions of the PSHC 90582 from you Matt/Archion?
and would I be able to order one from you if need be?
FWIW, Matt/Archion no longer works for SPI or as it became LKQ. He is now IT manager for Olympus Foreign Parts. I know there are issues with heater cores, A friend who works for O'reilly had a problem trying to locate one for a customer. BTW, this affects all factory AC trucks 1980-86 and all 1987-96/7 as far as I know. All I can say is AutoZone better make sure they can match it, mine is one of their Duralast lifetime ones.
Yes, unfortunatly I now longer work in the sales side of parts, LKQ was nice enough to burn me out of a ~20 year passion for selling auto parts. We have very little coverage in domestic except for popular local trends.
PSHC is Pro Source Heater Cores, Pro Source Heater Cores - Home. They will not sell to the public. It's kind of a crap shoot with any of the big box stores as they use many more vendors for order fill, and for that heater core# it could be as many a 8. If you check around some of the cooling wholesalers or radiator shops they may have an easier time. Otherwise a core block and getting the tanks soldered on may be your only choice. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Thank you for replying anyway. I found a different brand this morning on the internet and then ended up finding it on Amazon it is a APDI 9010205 A/C Heater Core which according to the pictures looks right and the fact that an Amazon reviewer said he ordered it and it fit his 198? something f250 when the ones he bought from the local parts stores would not. So I pulled the trigger and ordered it... I'm crossing my fingers that it is the right one otherwise yeah I will be having my original re-cored..
PN# 398247 (Aluminum) has apparently been redesigned and now has the exact same shape as the original Brass/Copper core that came original on the 86 w/ AC. I got mine from Carquest for about $25.
I also recently replaced my heater core in my '85 F150 4.9L with A/C, with standard output heater.
I bought the replacement from Advance Auto Parts for $24. It was advertised as CARQUEST or ToughOne Heater Core and listed on their website as Part No. 398247 - HOWEVER the part # on the heater core was 3891445. Apparently these part numbers (398247 and 3891445) might be synonymous.
It looked just like the one Archion posted a picture of, and fit just like the original one. it was all aluminum and made in China. It felt like it was only about 1/2 the weight of the original heater core. But it fit, and has not leaked yet.
I just installed a Murry 94582 aluminium core in my 1986 F250, AC, standard heater truck. It was a tight fit, and I would not proceeded if I did not remember your success. Thanks for posting.
