printed circuits

I was wondering if both instrument clusters have gauges, can one printed circuit board be substituted for another? I have on from a 75 D5TF10C956 AA and a D6TF10C956B. The plug in section looks different between the two, but looks like it will work. I am swapping out a better plastic back since the 75 is starting to crumble. Thanks.

If the plugs look different, then it's obviously not a drop-in replacement. Even within one style (gauges vs. lights) there were year to year changes. For instance, at one point the HI-BEAM light was moved to a jewel light above the speedometer, and a FASTEN BELTS light put in its place. That means an extra signal running to the connector, and hence a different plug (of course, that's not to say it couldn't be made to work).

I'm not sure if that's the specific difference between 75/76 that you're seeing...ND or Mike would probably know.

Ya, i looked at closer after your post and there is quite a bit difference in how the printed circuits are arranged. The printed circuit i was gonna use was from a 80s econoline which worked with my 79 wiring but i dont think will work with my 75 cluster. I just swapped the 75 circuit on the newer back. I can really see the difference putting the pink circuit on the 75 Back plate (no bottom hole for a light, the high beam indicator is different at the top and the circuit arrangement is much different). The green circuit fit on the newer back with only modification of a white peg for the circuit (cut it off), otherwise there is a hole for a light at the bottom that is covered up with the green circuit. There were two blue covers for lights on the 75 that won't work with the newer plate, but that's a pretty simple fix. Now I'm kinda wondering, what will swap over that will match if I need a new one someday. The ones listed on BGY is only for 76-79 and looks different than the 75 I have. Is the one I have specific to 75 and older with the fuel economy light or what will interchange is now my question.

Number Dummy could confirm this, but I think the colors on the printed circuits are type specific. In other words, if they are both gauge clusters with red circuits, then they will swap, but if one is green and one is red it won't.

I'd wait on ND's confirmation on that though....
