Hey guys. First off..its way to early and I've been up way to long haha. But in ny time..I've been doin some thinking. After I get the engine put in..should be soon..and the cab mounts finished..my next project will be to fix some bearings in the steering column. I have a manual steering box right now..I don't mind it. What was the maker of the boxes in 68..the year of my truck? Also..does anyone rebuild them? Is there anything special I can do to have it "assist" a lil bit more w/o going the full power steering route?
Jack it up and see how freely it steers. Lots of those old trucks were neglected in the lubing of the king pins and they get real stiff. It always helps them steer easier if you grease all the front end every time you change the oil.
F600 steering wheel would help if you are skinney enough to get under it.
