hello i have a 02 explorer 4.0 4x4 i recently bought and the radio doesnt workthe power comes on and picks up stations and the cd player seems to work but no sound at all previous owner says it happened after alternator was changed any help or advice would be great
If it is just not picking up stations but clock, cd player, etc works then it has to e something with the antenna or leading from the back of the radio deck to the antenna. You may have to follow the back of the electrical out to figure out what it is, but likely is just a short or the antenna. But I could be wrong. I've installed 2 different decks and wiring into my 97 Explorer with no problem from the am/fm.
It sounds like the deck appears to lock on to radio stations and the CD player appears to play CDs, but there is no sound from either coming over the speakers.
Twiggy, which version of stereo does your Explorer have? If it has one of the higher end stereos, there may be an external amplifier that either has a blown fuse, bad amplifier, or faulty connection between the deck and the amplifier.
If the truck has the low end deck then the issue is probably either a bad connection for the speaker wires (doubtful as I think they were in the same physical connector as the power lines) or a problem internal to the deck.
