I have a 2000 explorer and have a pioneer radio/cd player. i had the radio hooked up and the back speakers went out and wouldn't register on the radio as being there so i took the radio out and checked the wiring and reconected the lose wire and when i hooked it back up no sound will come out. I have had the radio since sept. one of my friends told to take it back that it might something wrong with the radio itself. so i exchanged it for the same, but i'm still having the same problem.
Does the radio iself power up? if it dont check the fuse panel. Do the speakers work?. At worse, your radio could've shorted out and ruined the speakers.
i talked to a girl at the auto store tonight she said she had a friend that has had 3 mustangs and she had to replace the speakers im going to see if that will solve my problem, but that will have to wait untill payday i was planning on replacing them anyway

first thing to do when you have no sound is double check connections at every speaker... then make sure the speakers terminals and wires aren't touching any bare metal in the car. While you have the speakers out make sure there is no loose solder pieces or metal coming off the terminals and making contact with the speaker frame. if still no sound chances are you have a factory amp and it has finally given way to the aftermarket cd player. most ford explorers have factory amps that are hidden and you might not even know about. you can tell however by the plug that is behind the deck.
to follow up on that... if one speaker terminal makes contact with the vehicles ground it can cause all speakers to loose sound even when it appears the cd player is still working fine.
