460 in a bronco
I wanted to know some information about the fuel injected 460s.
where there any changes to them? Any particular year that I should look for? I know that in 94 the 351 started using the roller cam, is there a year of 460 with a roller cam? The reason I ask is because I am planning on replacing my tired old windsor with a 460. I'm sure alot of you think that is a stupid idea, including my dad, but when you are 17 those are the only kind you get. If any one has done this swap or knows what else besides the tranny need to come out with the 351 that info would be great.

I had a 460 installed in my 88 Bronco . As far as brute torque & horsepower it excelled. Handling was a much different scenario. Even with new front springs and four new shocks on the front a sharp curve was not its favorite place to be. On a straight stretch towing anything I cared to tow it was a hoss. One trip into the North Carolina mountains and I sold it . Bought the 86 I have now with 351w HO and have really enjoyed the much better handling.

Since you'll be changing to a C6 transmission, you may find that it is of a different length than your E40D and some other mods may need to be made.
In addition to just the engine and transmission, you will need to get the computer from the donor vehicle. This isn't a terribly straightforward swap; expect some effort and money on your part. The motor mounts will also need to be changed. Keep in mind what Broncomule said; your handling characteristics will be much different.
If you are dying to spend money for performance, you can get some pretty good performance out of that 351W for less money than you may spend on the 460. The 460 is a fun engine, but the swap will probably be more than a "weekend fun project" unless you've got a well-equipped shop and you are into fabrication.
What year is your current Bronco?

I shoved a carbed 460 into a quad shocked '83, and I would do it again. The handling is a little different but not enough that I even think about it anymore.
The original springs have been holding up just fine for the last 5 years. I started to get a little sag not too long ago, but that turned out to be the axle pivot bushings needing replaced.
The motor mounts wasn't that big of a deal. I did a little measuring, then cut the 351 mounts and the 460 mounts apart, then welding them together. I guess you can buy motor mount kits but I have never looked into them.
You will need to relocate the oil filter with a remote kit, there is not enough room in the original location.

I've been running 429/460s in an '82 Bronco since 1986. It's a pretty simple swap and the extra 200 lbs has no adverse affect on handling, not the Bronco's strong suit to begin with. After using both the 351 and 460 engines, I wouldn't even consider going back to a 351W.
