72, I look forward to your pics. Thank you. I think when it comes to that much $$$ in an investment,,, all angles should be figured out. Its not just the $$$ investment, its the many yrs of mainenance.
Thank you for the pics. Mine is not a straight axle though and it has power steering which takes up a little more room on the left side. I see you ran the exhaust pipe from the header 'out' to the side a little instead of straight back. Does that make make more room to drop the starter with out having to remove the headers?
Also, I see you installed a 'flex' pipe section but you put it towards the rear of the truck. I will be using one of those when I change over to the headers from log manifolds. Less 'pull' on the header to head area which can loosen up the header bolts and break welds. Especially if you have a motor that like to shake from a cam. I've talked with some other guys that run headers and they installed the 'flex' section, just after the headers and in front of the mufflers. Cuts down on the shake to the mufflers also.
Thanks again for the pics.
Fritz, if you are using MR. GASKET header gaskets there is the problem with the leaks... 3 sets of gaskets before i noticed they don't match up with the header flange at all! fixed it yesterday and no leaks.... i have hooker headers and now, hooker gaskets.
Hey Bill W. I used to have hookers some yrs back but was always replacing Gaskets. They lined up alright, just stress on the flanges - causes the bolts to looen up. When that happens, the gaskets blow out. I installed a set of those flex connectors and no more stress on the flanges. However, at that point, the headers were all rusted out and when one of the welds broke loose, I went back to logs. The only real HP loss I noticed was at the upper RPMs. I really like how the Sandersons drop straight down at mid-point of the head. Kind of like the SBC type. Sorry, didn't mean to mention the 'C' word.
ON ANOTHER NOTE. I've got the News on in the back round and just heard they are going to drop the algebra requirement for our kids here in Calif. Unbelievable! Half our kids graduating high school are Dumb as a box of rocks now. Its all about $$$. If they don't pass and graduate, schools don't get that $$$ for the 'new' incoming students. They just pass around the prozac, pat em on the back and give em their diplomas. SAD
I am really starting to second guess myself on going with the Hooker headers. Should I use the flex connectors it still isn't too late for that?
I didn't hear about algebra being dropped, I am in the process of trying to get my kid in private school. Public classrooms are so over crowded they get no one on one.
Type of Headers can be a personal thing as well as application. Hookers are not bad headers. They have sure come a long way in improvement. They have been around since the days when I started playing with hotrods. But we won't go there. AND no comment Bill (ND)... ;o)
I just think I'd prefer the Sandersons because the collectors dump straight down between the two center cylinders on each head, thus staying out of the way of things. I can run my pipes from there and ad in the flex units just before the H-pipe &flowmasters. which are just in front of the axle...
I think your kids will be better off in private school.

Thanks for those pix as requested 72rn. I see that the flowtechs I used are probably not as bad a fit as I thought. The short tubes look like they take some tweekin of the pipe in relation to that front axle also. As long as they get by it and you arent doing any real heavy off roading you should be ok. My 65 and 63 will probably not get any real rough off road driving anymore.
Thanks again.

I jacked the drivers side tire up a long ways and never got less than a 1 1/2" gap. It doesn't have much less room than the oil pan.
They would fit much better in a post '66 High Boy. The engines in the later ones are mounted higher.
