I just removed my EGR valve due to a p0299 egr code just to see what was going on and the Orings for the valve was pretty shot, I went a head a put a brand new valve in it for 150 bucks lifetime warrenty. But when I looked in the manifold it was wet in there. With a BFD egr cooler delete how would coolent get in there?
It is common with an EGR system if you have ANY combustion efficiency issues, and most people do. I would MUCH rather see a little fuel in there than coolant .......
Possible contributing factors:
excessive idling
bad FICM or weak system voltage
poor fuel quality
bad EGR valve
poor turbo operation
restricted air flow
bad injector
too many short trips (IMO)
I saw this early on with my truck and resolved it by:
1. minimizing idling and using the high idle when I did want to idle
2. Replaced the EGR valve - Ford updated it in 2007 or so I believe.
3. Added a fuel cetane boost each tank
4. Every so often, made sure I had some WOT runs to blow out carbon, get the temps up, etc.
I also ran my ccv to a filter which I think also helped keep the EGR valve clean and dry.
The sticky solids will eventually cause poor EGR valve operation and accelerate intake fouling.
