EGR Valve Mess -- Diagnose?
Learned Gentlemen (and others who seem to know...)
I took out my EGR valve today to clean it and found some very oily residue on the valve and in the intake. I would swear it was oil but I understand it may be water and soot mixed together. I posted some photos of the valve before and after cleaning as well as the intake port. They are in my album. My question is whether this indicates a leaking EGR cooler. Please have a quick look and give me the prognosis.
2003 F350 DRW 6.0L with 45K miles. Last driven 120 miles round trip then parked in the garage over night. Valve removed the next day (about 14 hours later) and condition as you see it.
I did not see a lot of oil in the cold air tube running into the intake so this must be coming from the EGR side of the system. How bad does this look?
BTW - Left the plug off the EGR valve before I fired it back up - what a difference! Ran nice before but now the throttle response is noticeably better. EGR = BAD. No codes or CEL.
Thanks
Steve
