How long for warm up

How long or how many miles driven does it take you guys for your truck to warm up?
Lately there has been a few mornings in the mid 30's.
The needle for the temperature gauge for my engine does not even move till I drive it about 10-12 miles. This is even after starting it and letting it idle while I'm feeding chickens and getting my coffee for the road. I have a 55 mile commute to work down the highway.
The warm-up exaust valve is closing (can hear the hissing from tailpipe) and the idle does increase when I start it up. The truck runs fine.
It just seems to take too long ( compared to the 2000 truck I used to have ) for the truck to register some heat and get heat inside the cab vents.

Was thinking....maybe the t-stat is stuck open

Maybe everybody's takes this long and I just never noticed it because it doesn't hardly ever get cold here.

Also.....When it does start heating up finally...It stays in the lowest part of normal on the gauge. Never does get to mid normal like it does when in the 50's and 60's.

Never mind....did a search and found what I wanted to hear.
Seems as though my truck is acting normal....I think.

Doug, here latley mine acts exactly like yours does. She don't warm up until 6-8 miles down the road no matter how long I let her idle.

there's a lot of cast iron to warm up.... sounds about normal. i have a 10 min ride to work and i might just get heat before I shut it down. On the other hand though, once it is warmed up, it stays warm for a while. You can shut it down for a few hours and the you'll get heat out of it almost immediately.

I wouldn't worry.

I installed a coldfront from Lundt, about $50, to help speed up the warming process....works pretty good too. LINK for the dealer.

Hey Nut, you don't run that thing in the summer do you? I've got guys here in the Deep South that run them year-round for looks. That can't be good for temps in 90 to 100 degree wheather.

Nope. Just popped them in the other day. Easy in and out AND haven't scratched my grill
at all after one season of use.

Mine gets plugged in most of the time in the winter, but in times when I can't plug her in, it only takes my early '99 a few minutes to get up to operating temperature, maybe two miles give or take depending on how high the R's get during those first few miles. When she's plugged in, she's just about warmed up fully before I get to my first major intersection.

In the springtime and summer when its a bit warmer, I can be warmed up at nearly a mile from the house.

Maybe mine is the strange one.

That sounds like it's taking too long to me. The only idleing my pickup does is while I scrape frost off the windows, and the guage is up to where it normally runs in about 5-6 miles, the first 3 miles are at 35-45mph and the 65mph after that, and it was 7* here his morning. I think you need a new thermostat.

That what I was thinking Clux. Mine is warm 3 miles down the road after a 5 minute Idle. I would bet you had a stuck open thermostat.

Sounds a bit long to me, as well.

It doesn't get real cold here, but if it's pretty cold and I'm in no real rush, I'll let it idle till the high idle kicks off on its own. It'll have warm air after just a few minutes from when I first start it, and be up to the normal mark within 3-5 miles of driving, I'd say. (Of course, I still am easy on it as the tranny and such are still a bit chilly .)

Man Nut, that looks a lot better than the big piece of cardboard I zip tie to the front of mine.

No you don't, please tell me you don't. That's funny. At least I use a cool looking green and white striped towel over the grill to speed up the warm up.
