Most likely the tuner that you will need in order to run the delete will not need the sensors.. With that being said you can leave them in the factory DPF and cat that you are taking out... So when all you have to do for inspection is re install the DPF and cat and just PLUG in the sensor wiring harness... Tune back to stock and your good to go..

And you are correct, take the DOC and DPF as a unit, easy off easy on. Then don't change anything else. If you get the mini tuner it will turn the EGR off and the stock intake and tail pipe are fine. The deleted truck will sound like a jet plane but that's because the stock muffler is pretty much just a can.

OK, I made some call today. I found a local shop that will make me a pipe to replace the cat/dpf for a really good price. Just to make sure I am understanding how this works. I will not need to have the bungs in the pipe? I can unplug the sensors from the wire harness and leave them oped ended?

Does every DPF delete/tuner work the same? Do the all remove the need to have the sensors plugged in?

Sorry for all the question, I just traded from a 5.4 gasser to a 6.4 powerstroke.

Mini maxx doesn't need the sensors. So there for since the sensors will stay in the DPF/ cat assembly you do not need hung on the delete pipe... Somebody correct me of I'm wrong but I believe the spartan is the same way... Remember you HAVE to have a tuner BEFORE you delete other wise it won run right and you'll throw codes...

2nd off... No not all tuners are the same... Again correct me if I'm wrong but SCT spartan and h&s are the only 3 that have the option to tuner with a DPF and cat delete in place... I would stick with apartan or the mini maxx personally.. Either or are good tuners.. Just pricy but deffinently worth it...

My DPF and cat are coming off for sure, I am trying to decide which tuner to get. I want a VERY mild tune. I am not building a race truck, the 6.4 has plenty of power for what I need. I want to open it up and honestly the jet plane sound is pretty awesome.

well take your pick... they all are up there in price, so I mean.. really you just need to research each tuner, read forums, and go to the product website for info, and figure out which one is gonna be best for your wants... all 3 have mild, to 200 or more hp tunes (with DPF off) ... just research! there's a lot on this site to read about.. honestly everything I have said is from my own research, I'm in the process of getting the tuner and delete pipe my self...lol honeslty I want a mini maxx, but i'm gonne stick with the spartan, it's a little cheaper, and still does everything that I want, so I'll be happy...

The 4" AFE pipe was necked down to fit the stock 3.5" pipe.

I love mine

I purchased because it retains Stock Engine & Trans settings

My Trans shifted HORRIBLE with a previous Tuner.

If I were you, trying to save a little money, I'd go with the SCT to be honest...

The Gearbox Z DPF-R retains OEM Stock settings (I have this one)

The Gearbox Z DPF-R+ "PLUS" has an Economy Tune & it's a little more expensive than the non Plus version.

I personally don't care for Those "Power Tunes" and / or monitoring / gauges ...

Well I understand what your saying... I guess it's just the person I am... I like to be able to see exactly what's my engine and all of its components are doing at all times.. Let alone if I do throw a code I can read it right there on the spot... Just seems like to me if I'm gonna spend the money I might as well get aething nice... And just because you have a nice tuner it doesn't mean that you have to run a higher performance tune ... I don't know.. I'm thinking more logical to me I guess.. Just my opinion.. I'm sure what ever is bought y lost likely be happy... The guy that was asking that is..

Gearbox z is cheap for a reason.

Spartan, SCT, & H&S are so different from the above that to compare them is like comparing a prius to a Ford GT.

I did an awful lot of research before making a decision including talking to people that I know in town that have the various tuners and rode with them in their trucks.

I made a long trip with my 5th wheel while my truck was still stock. The air temp was around 95 degres and I had a strong headwind for about 50 miles. My truck got VERY hot to say the least. I may have caused my tranny to lose some life that day.

If I would have had my Spartan tuner at the time I would not have overheated. 1 because I would have been running the 210 Towing tune and 2 I would have had my DashDaq to monitor all of the critical temperatures with alarms set that would have let me know IF any temps were starting to climb to dangerous levels.

And YES I have seen 20mpg empty on the highway post DPF/Spartan.

The choice is yours & yours alone about what to do if anything.

The best recomendation I could give is to do your research and do not limit it to the internet. Pay attention to other 6.4 Fords & when you notice that someone is tuned, go talk to them.

How heavy you towing? I have towed cross country a number of times and never overheated...in stock power levels.

.. Good post, I agree that you get what you pay for, and with that being said you can't compare apples to oranges..
