I have a 1997 F150 4.6 V8 and as we all know these trucks are notorious for the spark plug blowing out. Although when I bought it I never had an issue until we put motorcraft plugs in. After a couple weeks of having these plugs in the porcelin blew out of the plug with the threads still in the head. The spark plug screws into a threaded insert which then screws into the head. We replaced the plug and nearly a month later the porcelin blew again. Replaced it, same story a week and a half later. Before the motorcraft plugs I had autolites in it, and I never had the slightest spark plug blowout problem. Should I just put an autolite in the cylinder thats blowing them? I'm 100% dumbfounded and need help! Any answers would be appreciated! Thanks!
Is there any signs of coolant or excess fuel in the cylinder?Just a shot in the dark,
this is a little strange that the same cylinder keeps blowing out porcelain.
The inherent problem with plug blow out in these engines are the lack of threads in the head, not a porcelain problem.
Is it like cylinder #4 which is hard to get at? Is there a chance you are cracking the plug when you put it in due to a difficult location...i.e. #4? If I understand this right, the threads stay in the head and just the porcelin breaks?
I highly doubt were cracking the porcelin because the same thing occurs everytime and when you look at the blown out porcelin nothing is cracked but the threads are still in the head. Also yes its cylinder #4
