First off, This die hard chevy man is really impressed with my " new to me" 2008 F350 (24,500 miles). I have used it to pull my 37' fifth wheel & my 40' sundowner horse trailer and it does a great job. Two questions:I have a mysterious bump when I start moving after a stop. seems to be on passenger side cannot tell if it is forwards or aft. Before I take to dealer ( It has the 12 month Ford Certified Warrenty) does anyone have ideas?I have not seen a regen light come on yet in my 1000 miles of mostly towing and my tail pipe is sooty black> I have examined other f350's and they seem to be grey to white in color. Is this something to be concerned with or does it need a computer tune up?
I can comment on the bump. This typical for these trucks. It is a sticky slip joint that needs to be greased. Not a big deal to fix. Drive shaft comes off, a specific type grease is applied, drive shaft goes back on. Usually less than an hours labor.
Don't think they'll cover it under warranty but you could always ask. I was still under powertrain warranty and it didn't cover it.
I have a 2006 F-350 that did that.
And I had a 2002 Ranger than any time it sat for a month it would clunk.
In both cases I re-greased the slip joint and problem solved.
With the Ranger it happened again out of town for a month and it was back.
I greased it again and after that any time I knew I was going to be gone
for more than 10 days I would have my mother drive the truck once a week
and that solved it.
The moral of the story is don't let your Ford truck sit and rot.
That Blue Ford PTFE teflon grease will looks to be thin but it really does the job.
Pick up a tube for your next Bump In The Night. Not that bad on price from Ford
Do a seach on my name or follow the link below. I posted how to resolve this problem. Though I think mines doing it again slightly after only 10K? I used a full tube of the Ford specific grease. But its also 17*F outside and works 2 miles away so the grease could just not be flowing well? Dont use anything but the Ford grease. The part number is XG-8. Teflon grease. I paid $8/8oz tube, one tube does the job but Im glad I bought 2 cuz I may be doing this again??? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...=droldsmorland
Droldsmorland,
I think you are on to the problem. When I was gone for more than a month
and had my mom drive my truck every week. Not just short 1 or 2 mile trips
but 10 or more. The problem did not come back.
