Each time I accelerate from a dead stop, I feel a "thunk". It seems to be coming from the transmission or drive shaft. I've been told that all Ford trucks have some play in the drive train and I should get used to it.
Should I take it in to the dealership? It is my first Ford and it only has 19K miles. The leaf springs squeak on the driver side when I go over bumps some days and other days it doesn't squeak.
If its under warranty it can't really hurt to take it in and tell them of all your symptoms.
I had a thunk during shifts and they replaced my driveshaft...didnt solve it. Then told me that it was normal. It isn't as bad as it was before they swapped the driveshaft though.
If it is an '04. There was a problem with the wrong grease or no grease on the splines of the drive shaft and this would cause a clunk when taking off from a stop. There is a TSB I believe that explains it and most people that I have talked to had their truck repaired for free. They just remove the drive shaft and install a specific grease that allows movement of the splines when taking off. Check with the dealer and see if this applies.
