You changed the ignition switch that is a foot or so down the steering column from the key?
What kind of transmission do you have, automatic or manual?

did you shift between park and neutral while trying to start?
it may not be all the way in park, or the neutral safety switch may be bad

I totally agree. Also if your ignition switch isn't adjusted up far enough toward the steering wheel, it will cause the problem you are having.

A little history leading up to the problem usually helps. What was the first thing that happened, say a broken ignition actuator?

First I would lower the steering column and slide the ignition switch as far as possible toward the steering wheel. Then try to start it with the key. If it does start, you may have to slide the ignition switch away from the steering wheel some and fine tune the adjustment.
