I'm still trying to decide on what type of 4 Barrel Manifold to get for my 71 Ranger XLT (w/360). I already have a Holley 600 for it. I have been planning on getting an Edelbrock Performer, or something along those lines. I'm after low end torque, as it will be a work truck.
I've been trying to educate myself on these issues, and while I'd love to throw $200 at a light weight Aluminum manifold, my wallet may not allow for that. So.....
I was looking on E Bay, and a guy had a nice 1975 "T" Manifold (390) for sale. In the description, it talked about how this manifold was built for "brute torque". This would be right up my alley. Now, I'm not prepared to send this guy $250 to ship me an 80 # Manifold, but my question is: Is this true? Would the "T" Manifold be a good choice for a pulling truck? I know that everyone says the "S" Manifold is for high performance, but what about the "T"?
My other question (and why I need some quick answers)......There's a guy who I spoke to on the phone who is coming by in about an hour. He said he has a 4 Barrel Intake Manifold for me to look at that is from a Ford Truck (390). I asked him if it had a big "T" on it, and he said he didn't know. If it's from a 75 Truck, it has to be a "T", right?
The other thing - the one I looked at on E Bay had the 4 Holes where the Carb sits on top of the manifold. He said this one just had a large square opening where the Carb sits. Last question - I definitely want a Dual Plane Intake. Was there any 1975 Ford Intakes that were not Dual Plane?
$250 for a cast iron manifold? No way. And disregard the seller's claim - They'll tell you anything so that your part with your money.
Find a local seller with a 4V FE iron intake for around $50 or save a few more dollars and get the Edelbrock 2105
Yeah, I'm with ya 100%......I would never pay that. But.....I have a guy coming by here in about 15 mins. He has a 4V Manifold from a 1975 Ford Truck (390). I wanted to know.....
I have a hard time believing that they all where I have a edelbrock on my 390 duel plane and it make great torque down low 1000 rpm I can drive around with 37s in 1:1 at 30 with good pick up even then
Was there any 1975 Ford Intakes that were not Dual Plane?
unfortunately i can't answer this specific question- but i will say that the factory manifolds all do fine on the low end. if you're building a work truck, a "T" manifold is nothing special, but it'll do the job just fine.
Thanks, guys. Appreciate the input. I looked at the intake, and it was really nasty looking. I had already decided that I wouldn't consider it unless it was really nice (and inexpensive).
I still like the idea of a T Manifold, though, for what I'm looking for. Another Ford guy in my area who is helping me said he may have one that he'll give me. Good learning process for me, though.
A single big opening sounds more like a Streetmaster. The iron 4BBL intakes were a dual plane setup with four holes. I had one on mine, and yes it was very heavy.
