My F450 (Simon) has the romps in the morning even though the glow plugs are new. The relay was providing power across the terminals and GPR mod LED light was illuminating. So, if the light works then the relay is good, correct? Wrong. It is possible for the relay to illuminate the load terminal but still restrict the voltage. I probed the load terminal with the Power Probe Hook and the display clearly showed nearly 3.5 volts of drop compared to the battery voltage. Install a new relay and truck starts nicely this morning.
My Firebird was throwing a code for a bank 1 sensor 2 O2 fault so I switch to VREF mode and send 1 volt up the signal line and then check with AE. If I wiggle the harness the voltage drops out so I know the wiring is the issue vs the sensor itself. I haven't fixed the wiring yet but at least I know where to trouble shoot next.
I think I am going to use this tool a lot. Here are some demo videos.
I love my PowerProbe. It sure makes anything electrical much easier! Use the ground function to trigger the PCM signal command to operate the relay. So useful, I wonder how or why I waited to get it before.
The powerprobe is on my wish list. I explained it to my friend and he said "sounds like a multimeter for dummies" The snarky electrical engineer in him came out on that one haha.
Try the link above and see if that works. There should be a list of five videos for The Hook. Watch the last video labeled "the HOOK tutorial" first. The one that says "Arc Detect..." is also pretty cool. It shows how to test relays.
