Alright, I have this 59ab and an older eldelbrock dual intake with to stromberg 97s on the shelf, and a 4 inch crank somewhere. Im dying to build something.... Soo I thought I could build this motor up and put it in my 51 and take my 8rt and put it in my 48, anyways, I think it is logical to put a cam with more lift so it can breath. I want a cam that makes her sound sweet, gain some power and run nice. I have had motors with nasty cams that wont idle. I DO NOT want one like that. So what are you guys using? Something slightly larger than stock would work.. Like I said with two carbs, and headers it will be able to breath, but a larger cam should help it a lot more, right?
Some good info there. Big lift and long duration don't help as much as you'd think, because flatties don't spin up high enough to take advantage.
Putting a 59AB into a BonusBuilt may create some issues. The fan will almost certainly be in the wrong place. I don't know if the 59 water pumps that clear the front dizzy will be in the right place for the motor mounts? You can change the timing cover, cam gears, cam, WPs, and a few other pieces to use an 8BA style dizzy, I believe.
The motor should drop right in. Its out of a truck and has the high mount fan. Im still confused on the cams, so many! I will have to keep doing research. What about relieving the block? is there potential gain there?
