I have a 400 with headers a performer intake and holley 600 cfm. So far I'm fairly disappointed with the performance, but i've heard that a cam will really wake the motor up. I want a very mild cam as I don't want to replace the springs or rockers if possible. The motor only has 75,000 original miles, is this reasonable? The question is, what cam would you recommend and how much should I expect to have it installed if all goes well?
if i were you i'd go RV cam or something similar. My 351M has a rv cam and it woke it up quite a bit. I rode in a truck with the same setup except it was a bone stock 400 and wasn't near as gutsy as mine. I like it and it doesn't lop too much. It's got tremendous power at low rpm's.

go with a comp 268H it is a single pattern cam duroation is @218 lift is .494 on a 110 lobe seb. i have had this cam in a simular set up in two different 400's it works great
yes you will have to change the springs for the fact there the original springs. and you will have to change the timing chain with a top quality chain like comp or better. i would not worry about the rockers unless you got alot of money to spend. and it will run you some where around $300.00
