I'm planning on buyin an 83 ford bronco with a windsor in it......I don't know how stock the motor is as of yet but I will when I tear it down to bare block to put all new gaskets in it.....anyways...when the previous owner had the engine built....they put a cam with a cast iron distributor gear into it and tried to mate it to a steel geared distributor...apparently it sheared off two of the teeth on the cam...I didn't know that was possible...Is it?or should I be looking for another issue? But, when I replace the cam and whatever else, it won't be completely stock when I get done with it.I'm going to put an edelbrock 650 cfm on it along with a mild cam.....my question is....this is going to be strictly a play truck so i want a cam with good torque and mid range to keep the wheels spinning....what cam should I get...not a real cam info kind of guy or engine building but you gimme the parts and I'll put it together the right way.So, what kind of specs shouldI be looking for in a cam to achieve what i want done with it.The rest of the truck will be backed up by a c-6 tranny and god only knows what t-case(did they run BG or NP????)along with a ford9 inch and D44 IFS front.I'mgonna start with modding the motor and work my way down to the axles and eventually the tranny.Any ideas and tips or wutever are appreciated.Let me know opinions on the cam.......I'mlooking for a good combo...Thanks.
I personally was not nearly as impressed with comp cams as I was with Cam Research. Cam Research builds custom cams for Ford V-8's only. They will match the cam to your setup and needs. Also they will discuss your build with you and help you make a good match. They really seem to know what they are doing. I'm very pleased with the custom grind that I got. I got a custom cam an lifters from them for $195, which was only $10 more than my Comp Cam and lifter set. For that price a I personally cant see why anybody wouldn't want to go custom gind. I'm not saying that you wont get good info from Comp or crane or whoever, but I was very impressed with the patience and willingness to help that I got from Scott at Cam Research. http://www.camresearchcorp.com/ Good luck. Let me know what brand of tires you will be spinning so that I can invest some money in their company.
best two outta 3 right off the bat...sounds great to me...thanks guys....I appreciate the help you had to offer....I'll look at both companies and pickone...thanks again.
