CPS question?

After 325k miles, I just lost my first CPS in my 01 7.3 Excursion.
Luckily , I had a spare and was back on the road quickly!

Now, my spare was a Black CPS, and I now see they are long gone!
What has everyone's luck been with the new Grey ones??
I have read that originally, they were a nightmare! Have things been better with them ?? I need to get a spare back in the glove box, just want to get the best option?

Thanks for all the help!

Paul

I believe as long as you stick with Ford or IH parts you should be fine. I have over 4 years on a grey cps done during the recall. I have a black one in the glove box now (keep forgetting to swap it back in).

Ive had a grey one in my truck for about a year now, & don't notice a big difference- Mileage is about the same. I notice a very slight miss at idle but running it's fine

What do you mean that you 'lost' it? If the CPS lost a good seal and moisture got into the block around it, it will act like a bad CPS and shut the truck down. My truck shut down several times going through a large water puddle, but it always started back up because the heat of the engine evaporated the water quickly.

Grey one in the truck for two years now and all's ok, black one in the glove box ordered from Clay.

For the past several days, the truck was intermittently spuddering??
Then today it was very bad! Just making it to work, and it stalled and would not restart?...... Plugged in the scanner tool and the CPS code came up?
Changed out the CPS, and the truck ran really nice! Old CPS was clean, no sign of water as you are suggesting. I'm sure this is the first time connector has been apart since installed new at the factory!

Glad to hear many have had good luck with the Grey CPS......
I was a little worried when I checked Flea-bay pricing, and saw several sellers , selling The Grey CPS in packs of 3! I was thinking Ford didn't figure this one out!

Thanks to all who responded!

I have the same thing! I ordered mine from Clay and I plan on swapping it just to be on the safe side. I do not know if its original but its got 13 years and 285,000 miles on it! Its also the grey one.
