Here is what they have said today,
Bad coil on #7. The IAC is causing a rolling idle, because it is aftermarket, I just put that on there last week due to the idle issue. And it needs an intake clean. They want $800.00+ tax.
I can do the coil, I can take that IAC back maybe, and get a different one? have no idea how to do an intake clean.
does this sound like it is reasonable for this issue? IF I spend the 800, I will have nothing left if this does not fix it.
Is it worth $800? Heck no. If the IAC has a warranty, take it back and swap it out for a new one. Every now and then, people have gotten a bad component.
Swap the coil yourself.
Get some throttle body cleaner that will not ruin the plastic intake (read the can, it's available) With the engine off, remove the intake at the throttle body and spray it inside as you hold the butterfly open. You'll see the hole for the IAC in the back. Give it a good soaking side to side, front to back, and clean the butterfly both sides and remove all the black oil mess, start the truck to dry it out, repeat. If the can has the little red hose taped on the side, be careful if you use it. I had to fish one out of the throttle body before as the pressure blew it right off the can.
So I agreed to the 800, and imagine this, It did not fix it. Now they say the fuel pump is bad, and going from 50 most of the time, and some times 90. And 0 when it is turned off.
They want about 800 for that work. ARGH. I can change that on my own...
It would not be so bad, but so many things have happened at the same time it is just driving me nuts, and into the poor house.
one more question. I read a lot about the pump driver module by the rear tire. Does an 03 have that? or is it all part of the pump assembly?
Have today off, so I am starting the pump change. Thanks so much!
Not sure about location if any on an 03 . BUT if it has an FPDM , It is not part of the pump assy . Ford has used them for many years . They controll the run time of the fuel pump . They are a remote unit from the pump . Frame mount on some , trunk , body mount on others. Change your filter ! Ck. tank for debris ! Good luck !
Changed the pump and filter, and screen in the tank. Running ok today, We will see how it goes.
Inside the tank was clean and the screen was loose and floating in the tank. I am calling the filter on the pump a screen even though it really is not.
Thanks again for the help!
