Should I keep truck?

Hey guys,

I let a friend borrow my truck and he ended up rear ending someone at decent speed. Ins. is going to total it . I'm wondering if I should buy it back from them and try to fix it or do something with it rather than just taking the cash settlement from them. Just such a great truck and hate to see it wasted, plus just had all the major work done that comes with the 6.0's about 12k miles ago... Only 88k on the truck, 05 F250 Lariat diesel crew cab with a few extras. What do you guys think. I think it is very fixable and it just seems like such a waste... Thanks fellas!

Other than it now having a salvage title if it looks like you can fix it I would keep it. At least you know what you have with this truck.

Looks like your friend should man up and pay for part of a replacement vehicle or the damages. Any pics? If there is no frame damage, replacement parts are pretty easy and cheap to come across. What is your location?

A perfect example of "No good deed goes unpunished."

If you want a major project, then yes. Otherwise, write it off, put a down payment on a new truck and in the future, anytime someone wants to borrow your truck, tell them it comes with a driver.....YOU.

No one...drives my truck. Same with money...don't lend it unless you are prepared to never see it again.

I will however drive for you

The most important question: is there any frame damage? At all? Even a little?

Second most important question: is your garage fully outfitted, with you being capable of putting it all back together and having the time and inclination to do so?

If not, then the third most important question: is your friend going to pay someone else to do the work? The reason it's totaled is because the insurance company believes it would be more expensive to fix it than they believe the truck is worth. That should tell you something.

Even if it's going to be scrapped, see if you can recover the axles at least. Jeepers out there will thank you for it.

If you can deal with the cab swap at home I would keep it.
Get a high milage gasser and swap the cab and other odds and ends.

Good luck, should be able to get some decent money for the engine alone since you bullet proofed it. Sorry to hear about the loss though..
