by the end of the week i will be putting the pistons back into my 400 block. i noticed yesterday that the arrows for the 1-4 cylinders were actually pointing toward the back of the block so i pressed them off and put them to where they point toward the front of the block. now i want to be absolutely sure that i have this right. On the drivers side of the block, the arrow will be toward the bottom of the bore but still pointing toward the front. On the passengers side the arrow will be at the top of the bore and again, pointing toward toward the front of the block. Does this sound right?
i was thinking that all the arrows would be at the top of the bore pointing towards the front. they will still point towards the front of the block. yet the arrows are not all at the top or toward the bottom of the bore. i can't remember when i tore the engine down if the stock pistons had all the arrows at the top of the bore or not.
Hmmmmm, I dont remember what a stock piston looks likes. I suppose as long as you put them back in their original locations and the arrows all point towards the front they should be right.
But I could be wrong.
I have been told that the numbers on the rod caps correspond to the firing order, but when I pulled my engine apart they where in order from front to back 1-8. The marks on the top of the pistons point to the front of the engine.
