EBPV super dirty! Leak?

I am replacing my up pipes and all the gaskets around the turbo and have it apart. When I took the turbo pedestal off, It is super dirty around the EBPV rod. If it is leaking there, would that make any noise? Is there a fix to it, or should I just eliminate it and replace it with the non-EBPV pedestal? Pros and cons? I do live in Minnesota, and it is cold here if that has anything to do with yay or nay.

It does sound like the EBPV is the issue. The options are to use the pedestal with EBPV delete or gut your current pedestal. There are plenty of write-ups on doing the pedestal delete, so it would be worthwhile to do a search in this forum to see how others have gone about this. It's going to be up to you if you want to spend the money on a new pedestal or mod your current one.

I have had mine deleted for a few months with no issues. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...take-note.html

You can rebuild them if you want to keep it. Clay has a rebuild kit.

Riffraff Diesel: Exhaust Back Pressure Valve Piston Rebuild

As well as the delete pedestal if you preferred to delete it and didn't want to do it yourself. This is the late pedestal based if this is the 2000 in your profile.

Riffraff Diesel: Garrett Non-EBPV/ Blank Pedestal 99.5-03

I actually rebuilt mine when we did up pipes and frx on my truck at the South Texas Tech Day. The EBPV was not a hard thing to do. The lining up of the turbo with the up-pipes was the pain. Just remember to reattach the EBPV to the turbo when reinstalling.

Not hijacking, just adding to your post. My truck is doing the same thing. Sounds like somebody is stuffing a rag in the pipe so it is restricted and sounds like air blowing out of the pipe. Then you can hear it like blow out. Very frustrating, because you get a lack of power when it is doing this. I also am worried about the cold and deleting this option. I hope you find out something.

I will let this post know what I have done after the weekend. I am leaving for vacation today and won't have a chance to finish the truck before I take off.

One more question I have is after "gutting" the pedestal, is there any other step I need to do involving this besides "tricking" the electronics (if I choose to do that)?

this question leads me to believe you have yet to read up on the procedure...
it can get complicated... so dont skim over your reads unless you are handy with a welder.
things need to be plugged... or stuff will get messy...

read read read.
thats gonna be my new blanket answer to try to help get guys into the habbit of taking advantage of the wonderful advanced search link in the forum search tab.

If you are worried about a "soft" code then you would need to install resistors to load the circuit. 470Ohms at least 1/2 Watt.
