WTH!?!?!! None of my local Napa stores carry that type of anti-freeze. UGH!!
What about G05? Precharged SCA. Will that be OK?
In my opinion going with G05 coolant is a waste of time....might as well stick with the green stuff and maintain the SCA manually.
NAPA has to have some type of ELC that will work, lots of brands available. Their house brand will do, I think it is called NAPA Fleet Charge, we have that stuff in a 50 gallon drum at work and it goes into all our trucks from 1/2 ton to class 8.
The fan tool is worth the buy, or rental. I rented one, used it as a pattern to build my own. I've used it on my truck once, but have used it several times. It's worth having when you need it, plus it works on all 7.3 psd's. I recommend replacing both rad. Hoses while your at it, even if you don't think they are bad. I will try to find it, but there is something about the dual alternator upper hoses...
The mian hoses are about 6 months old. And my upper is already the one that goes outside the belt.
I am thinking of just buying the tool as well. Could come in handy later down the road.
I use a impact gun with chisel bit to break the fan clutch loose. Works great and doesn't take much to break it free...then just spin it off by hand. Works every time.
I would trust anything from RiffRaff but ... I did find an aluminum water pump from Autozone for about $30 less and it is in stock. Total that is about $192. From Autozone its about $164 with a lifetime on the pump and 1 yr on the thermo. Add the coolant and that is about another $50. Either way...it will have to wait until this weekend to get fixed when it is supposed to be back up to about 50 degrees and I have the time.
Should I use any other sealant with the new orings and gasket? How long to let it set before adding coolant and running it?

Thoughts? The pump is new, not a reman.
Please tell me you haven't bought a water pump yet. I went through 2 Advance Auto "lifetime" water pumps in 6 months before I finally went with a Motorcraft pump from Riffraff. The lifetime warranty is nice but the coolant cost adds up over time. JMHO
Actually... I did find a motorcraft pump from OReilly's. Cost about double but got some good discounts and I HOPE...this one lasts. Can't complain tho... the one in there now was there when I bougt it 208K miles ago.
Bill, did you ever see the weep hole on the water pump leaking. Looking at your photos, my system leaked at the inlet pipe to the pump where you show a leak. I changed the o-ring there and all good. My leak would change/stop with temp changes.

Just saying...
Good point. had the same problem. changed out the round 'square' o-ring....all good.
So the new water pump is in... Went without a hitch... other than his stoopid horses that kept coming in the shop to see what we were doing, (Used a buddies Barn/shop). I had to chase down a couple of tools twice as they decided they were being tool monitors and figured since I didnt have that ratchet or the air hose in my hand... I didn't need it. We finally grabbed a spare gate and put it up across the open doorway.
I didn't end up using the brand spankin new clutch tool I bought as he had an air chisel and we used that for the fan... worked pretty good. Except I didn't like the two groves that I now have on the fan nut. Not bad but I should of used a dull chisel instead of a new one.
I ended up going with regular anti-freeze since after 7 Napa's and countless other auto parts stores, nobody carried the Xerex for diesels that I was looking for. And it took me 3 stores to find the SCA additive. The first two looked at me like I was speaking Russian so I walked out. The third kinda looked at me weird until I said "To prevent cavitation", then he lit up and took me right to the stuff. I know I will have do more maint. on it to keep the levels right but at least I won't have to worry about the regular stuff doing any damage.
CLEM1226... Now ya tell me. There is a CAT dealer/shop a few miles from my house...well about 20 but close enough. Oh well. Next round when I do a flush and fill.
The antifreeze I drained out looked almost new. No fuel or garbage floating around so I was able to reused alot of it, (and with no fuel I am not worried about the injector cups anymore). I did make sure though to not let any of the silt that it is known for, go back in. Flushed out the system with distilled water, refilled and added a new gallon and she was full. I put the addivitive in about midway through the fill for a good mix. Topped it off and ran it about 5 miles and brought it back to a clean spot in the shop... no leaks.
If anyone else has to do this...the air chisel and air ratchet are a HUGE plus. He had the big compressor and chisel, I had the ratchet. Made for a fairly quick job. Took about 2 hrs to get it done. Although would of been quicker but between the beer breaks and the horses stealing tools it added a little time. Now on to my next project... Adjusting the shift lever so it starts right. Stay tuned for my next post!
Just when you think you've heard everything, now, horses are stealing tools, "birds heads are falling off....(Tugly)...classic, thanks for the laugh and get'n job done.
Yup, used me a chisel too. Like you, i now got some purdy good grooves in the fan nut, but hopefully, i dont have to remove it for awhile...
Not sure if it was you, that just mentioned the non-leak when warm situation, but i notice from time to time with mine after install..(Airtex), that it'll "cry" as well...from weephole. Seems to more so, with truck parked **** up at garage . I'm used to it now, with it warming up in the mornings, i take a quik peek at the bottle see if it needs topped off.

Oh hell... You would mention birds. While working on this I dropped a screw and my buddy start digging around for it.... He found a dead bird tucked away nicely in my bumper. Bout scared the hell out of me when he dropped it over my shoulder. sheesh. I hit that thing about 6 months ago! Never did find it then.
My bulldog likes to take tools and go chew on them after I set them down whenever im working under the truck. So I know how you feel about the horses taking your tools.

Yeah I did. I though about the inlet and the t-stat housing but other than a slight drip hanging from them when the fliuid was flung around when running, it had to be the weep hole. It was drooling out a constant stream from right behind the pulley.
