As for pulling the old off and the new on... Any odd tools that I will need to make sure I have?
You will need a big *** wrench,2 1/4 " i believe, to hold the clutch fan or they make the tool to hold it. $25 i think.Strap wrench can work also. there is a write-up for this job somewhere on this site. Maybe Guzzles has a write up. Another tip is to use dielectric grease to hold the gasket in its place on the water pump.

I had to go to the international dealer here in town to find ELC suitable for the truck. If you have a truck stop nearby, you can find the ELC, if you want to change to that in the truck.

Not really "nearby" but maybe I can get my wife's car and go to the two that I know are within 50 miles.

I've heard nothing but bad about the water pumps from the parts store so I would stick with OEM unless you want to be doing it again in a year.

If you are thinking about going with ELC then I'd recommend that you flush out the old coolant before removing the old pump using this procedure
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...formation.html

Then replace the pump and fill with ELC and distilled water. I buy my ELC at NAPA for about $12-13 per gallon.

Soooo.... Flushing included....
I will need 4 of the coolant and 4 of distilled water... Right?
I saw some earlier threads saying like 4.9 of coolant and the rest in distilled water so I am assuming a total of 8 gallons.

If you are switching over to ELC you will need a lot more distilled water to fully flush the system.

I ended up using about 18 gallons of distilled water. I flushed twice, which took 7 gallons each. Then drain it for a final time, button everything up (hoses, block plugs, t-stat etc) and pour in 4 gallons of ELC concentrate along with about 3 gallons of distilled water. Then start engine, check for leaks and go for a drive to get the engine up to temp. Park and let it cool and use the last gallon of distilled to top off the degas bottle. Total system capacity is a little over 8 gallons.

WTH!?!?!! None of my local Napa stores carry that type of anti-freeze. UGH!!

What about G05? Precharged SCA. Will that be OK?

Some "water stores", for lack of a better description, have distilled water in bulk. Just bring a tote of some sort and fill it up, pretty cheap.

We flushed a truck at STTD with well water twice, then flushed one and a half more with distilled before tightening all the plugs and dropping in ELC. Truck was then driven from South Texas to Florida pulling a camper. Get concentrate if you can find it. Put in four gallons and top off with distilled. We could only find the premix stuff down here, but then again we don't see the cool temps that you do.

The fan tool is worth the buy, or rental. I rented one, used it as a pattern to build my own. I've used it on my truck once, but have used it several times. It's worth having when you need it, plus it works on all 7.3 psd's. I recommend replacing both rad. Hoses while your at it, even if you don't think they are bad. I will try to find it, but there is something about the dual alternator upper hoses...
