I didn't have any issue with the harness routing either, length seemed to be just right.
I did also learn that the steps will stop if something is in the way when they close.
Got out of my truck in real tight parking space (aren't they all now) in heavy rain. My phone flipped out of my hand and landed in a puddle under the truck. Reached my arm through real quick to get it and the step came up and trapped my arm. Didn't put much pressure on it before it deployed again. Probably would have looked pretty funny if I was stuck there with arm trapped under the truck
