Hello- Does anyone know if the 3 valve V10's were ever used in the Excursions? I'm looking at an 05' with a V10 and I'd like to know. The dealership that's selling it has no idea. I thought I heard a few years back that Ford never put the 3 valve engines in the Excursions, being that 2005 was the last year it was produced.
I must admit, I am a little apprehensive to buy, hearing all of the spark plug issues with these engines. Not sure which engine is best. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. They are not a Ford Dealership. They're a Nissan Dealer , so I guess I can't beat them up too bad for not knowing. Might be why it's got such a good price on it!
How much are they asking?(if its ok that I ask) how's the miles and body? V10 pricing is hard to market anymore. 99% of people looking at 3/4 Ton trucks want diesel it seems, and with gas still over $3 a gallon, no ones wants a truck that gets 10 mpg anymore so prices are starting to reflect that.
It's a 2005 Limited. Miles are around 180M. Looks to be a pretty nice truck. Clean CarFax. They are asking $8300.00, which I found to be a very good price. It's at a Nissan Dealership in Dickson, TN, near Nashville. (877)893-3448. I'm probably not going to pursue this. I'm in Michigan and wasn't looking forward to flying down and driving it back, although being a southern truck, it is rust free. I found a Yukon XL 2500 locally that I think I'm gong to try and snag.
I agree with about the gas mileage, BUT if you need a micro-locomotive for towing, well, what are you going to do. I JUST sold my 2004 Excursion with a diesel. It treated me OK, but a diesel is a VERY expensive truck to own. I saw big expenses on the horizon and if I towed every week, I could justify owning it. I only need to tow a few times per year and to be honest, the diesel and a V10 get about same mileage around town. My diesel got around 13 in town, but the oil changes at $150 were killing me. Then you hope you don't drop an injector or blow a EGR cooler. Great engine to own while under warranty. Pulls great, but they DO NOT like cold mornings...
LOL. Since this dealership knows nothing about Ford V10's, you could use that to your advantage. Tell them that the exhaust studs are prone to breaking and he needs to lower the price more. Also, ball joints commonly need to be replaced. Let them know about the plug spitting issue even though it doesn't apply to that model year.
The '05 V10's 3V in the trucks (other than Excursions) are known for the 2 piece plugs snapping off in the head. Since he doesn't know any better, I would use that to bargain with.
This is great payback from all those unnecessary services these stealerships pulled on me in the past before I joined FTE.
