Ok so i am doing a 302 swap in an 85 Bronco II. I picked up a M5OD-R2 and bw4406 from an 02 v6 f150, as the 4.2L and 302 share the same bellhousing pattern and it puts the shifter in the right place. I was going to use the bw4406, but looking at it, it doesn't use a speedo gear.
Is there any year of the bw4406 that i would be able to use with a mechanical speedo? I thought i heard 97 and 98's used a gear then they switched to the electronic sensors.
Are you asking if that sensor will turn a speedo gear? It won't. There isn't a gear inside the trans to turn a speedo cable. You can't just remove the speed sensor and replace it with a gear. There is nothing to turn the gear.

No, what I am asking is, if I was to obtain a bw4406 that uses the same speedometer sensor as in the first pic, which has a gear on the inside of the t case, which turns a gear on the sensor. If I was to remove the sensor and plug my speedometer cable and gear into it, will it turn it. I have no intention of using the newer sensor at all.
The sensor you have pictured is a VSS sensor, it was in use on the 97 and 98 model M5OD-R2 transmssions in the F150s. It is a gear-driven sensor. I do believe there is a standard speed drive that will fit that hole and operator a cable - I just don't know where to tell you to look for one.
I posted this because I just recently ran into an issue on a '97 F150 that I have where the previous owner swapped in a later model M5OD that used the newer OSS style setup. They do NOT have a gear, the sensor itself is a coil and it is triggered by a reluctor on the tail shaft. My truck is supposed to have the setup you have pictured there.
