Ball Joint Q

Ok so i am doing my upper and lowers of corse, I am to the step where i am trying to take the axle out, i am trying everything, prying on it, hitting it, that seal seems stuck on there and will not budge. Does anyone know what i am talking about and may know a trick, i was thinking of heating the outside of the housing deal i do not know what it is called lol. do you think that will loosen it up? anyways here is pics o what i am talking about. thanks for the help/

I Know exactly where your at and what you mean

Best thing here is to Use 2 PRYBARS And pry axel out the Steering Knuckle

Stick the prybars in around the Ujoint and pry out

Once you get started it will come easy

Let me know if your still stuck Iv been down this road on my 03 too

good read here

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ll-joints.html

There was a Bunch of Pics looks like all the Pic Links are Broken

It was a GREAT Writeup still is just Minus the Pictures

You will need to make the Seal Install Tool
Its Picture was still in there in the Link above for the special tool to Install the seal when going back together

Yes you can get NEW Seals

I bought ALL New seals But the 2 Main ones like in your pic Usually Break for me 1 Broke 1 was reusable but I installed 2 new ones

Ford will have them get them all there is 4-5 per side

But thats the Main Ones in your pics 50-70.00$$ Each FYI so Not cheap

Yes can be Frustraighting as Hell

I Never Beat a Auto that hard Before to get apart

I did mine thought I would save a Penney but spent around 600.00 in parts and special tools Pullers and what Not

The Cool thing I Guess is next time it will be cheaper Lifetime warrenty on MOOG BallJoints and I have the tools!! Just have to Buy the seals

I went Moog Balljoints since they was Greasable and Lifewarrenty so far so GOOD

Good Luck Let us know if you get Stuck again I Know some them Parts can be Rusted together and tough to get apart

So Give a shoutout if you Get to a Bad spot again

I know I read the writeup Many Time just to be Shure I was doing it write Since I beat it so Hard to get apart I know its scarey LOL

Take a 5 pound hammer and smack the yoke of the axle where the ball joint goes through on the front and back side and alternate back and forth hitting front then back and then with the nut on flush on the bottom ball joint stud smack the top of the stud with the 5 pound hammer. They can be a bear to get loose but they will come. A bit of kroil or penetrating oil can help as well.

Ok Cool you got it

The way all these BJ and steering Componet are Taper Fit they shure can be troublesome

The Tool I posted you drive in just to Separate Steer knucle from Axel Tube Ears Next time

I had to get all Kinda Pullers it sucked

Well I hope you used a Torq Wrench and Followed the Torq Sequence on Balljoint Nuts Cause Over Torq could have a Effect on this

They May loosen after a few drive

Did you Grease the BJ Zerts???? (Hope you got servicable BJ)

What kinda Balljoint did you go with ????
