Need help

I am doing my ball joints on my truck.I have everything off.I just have one question on the axle.Does the whole seal on the axle shaft come off.I mean the whole seal with the metal ring around in.I have tryed to pull the seal off but i keep denting the metal ring thats behind the seal,is that all one unit?

OK i figured that out,now my other question is does the upper ball joint press up or down.

OK never mind those other questions...How the heck did u guys get that top ball joint off?????I tryed to use a ball joint remover that i rented at autozone and the thing isent big enough...I tryed to put a big socket and pound it from the top with a 5 pound hammer,damn thing still wont move.Any hints u guys can give me to help me get the thing out would be great..

Do you always talk to yourself? I will being asking you the questions when I chg my ball joints.. since you have figured out.
