I believe I know the Love's you speak of..what was the price there? I see Napa can order it for around $25.99/gallon.

I checked one O'Reiley's and they did not have any type of heavy duty coolant...

What is the issue with SCAs? What detrimental effect do they have on the engine/cooling system?

That is just Ford Gold coolant, Zerex brand.

Some feel the Ford Gold is partially the root of the problem with plugged oil coolers.

I will add.... a lot of guys switch to ELC, whether Rotella, CAT EC-1 or some other variant and usually never have another issue.

But their are plenty that continue to use Ford Gold and continue to have issues.

Coincidence? Maybe.

I got my Fleet Final Charge at the Loves on I75 between Marietta and Cartersville. I think they stock it there. I don't recall the price and it was a couple of years ago. As others have mentioned, make sure you get the concentrate not the 50/50. There are lots of great posts and opinions on flushing and changing coolant on FTE. Just search on "coolant flush" or similar. Do your research and good luck. You will see a lot of discussion on SCA or silica based material in the coolant and why many believe you shouldn't use them. There are several articles in the tech folder. I am no expert, but you will see the experts share their knowledge when you do your research.

There are also others, myself included, that continue to use the Ford gold and have no issues. I do have a coolant filter if that helps?

That very well could be true.

I have mentioned my old 2005 F250 several times. Over 170,000 miles (130,000 of those miles between January 2007 and April 2009) and not once did I touch the engine for anything other than oil, fuel and air filters.

No EGR, oil cooler, head gasket issues whatsoever.

Even though I kept up with the ATF, diffs and transfer case I never even changed the coolant.

Even with that being the case, I do not like Ford Gold. I wouldn't stop someone from using it, but I do feel there are better alternatives available.

Posting on a 9 year old thread, but anyways…

Fleet Charge is NOT an ELC like Final Charge

When a thread is worthy enough to be read again 9 years later...
then that demonstrates that FTE is doing something right, by hosting and enabling the search of relevant content that people seek out to read.

When a 9 year old thread is inspiring enough to be commented on by a new member...
then that demonstrates that the older members who contributed to the thread did something right, by posting useful information and anecdotes that people want to comment on.

When a new member takes the time to research and read the FTE archives going back 9 years...before blindly blurting out a question that has already been asked and answered practically every year before and since...
then that demonstrates that @Stevensonb1120 is the type of new member who recognizes the value of what older members have posted in years prior, and as such is likely to meet or exceed that value in the posts he contributes in the years to come.

Therefore, I'd like to be the first to WELCOME Stevensonb1120 to FTE. Thank you for your incredible photo of your operating table with all your 6.0L parts laid out ready for surgery. I noticed you posted another photo of the trainwreck of an engine bay that you are starting off with over in the 7.3L forum, while once again, leveraging the resources of FTE by reading the archives on coolant changing and chemistry.

It would be neat to see a write up from you on your 6.0L project, in the 6.0L subforum, where your photos of before, during, and after are displayed in one thread, and where you share what you discovered in your rebuild along the way. Given how good and clear the pictures you take are, such a write up from you may very well be deserving of its own thread.... but there is nothing wrong with reading an old thread and commenting on it. That's what the old threads are there for. If it were wrong to do so, then old threads would be locked or deleted. And that would defeat one of the major attractions and purposes of a member contributed informational forum.

Thanks it's been an experience. 9 years is only half the life of the truck!
