1973 F250 Custom speedometer

Hi:

I find the website very interesting and fun to read. I live in South Africa and we have a 1973 F250 Custom which we use on the farm. When we bought it it had the 351 V8 with a 3 speed automatic transmission. We have changed it to the 2007, 4.2L straight six cylinder turbo diesel with the intercooler. We have the ZF gearbox of the same model fitted.

This conversion work very well for the purpose we use it and is very fuel efficient but the problem that we have now is that the speedometer pickup on the gearbox is electrical and the original speedometer is mechanical (Cable).

Is there anyone with a clever idea or suggestion or maybe there is a standard speedometer that will fit in the place of the old one that I can use.

Eddie

You could get an autometer speedometer that will work with the electronic speed sensor but you will have to either mount it someplace or cut out the old speedo from the guage cluster.

I wish we could get an engine like that in America! We would love to see pictures if you could!

For some reason I battle to attach a picture. What is the easiest?

All the guages are single, seperate gusges and the speedometer is placed in the dashboard which is steel and part of the "bodywork", we could remove it seperately. My thought was to find another vehicle's guage, which might fit in the hole, and replace it that way but I did not find the correct one as yet.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Another Method:

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

What does the 4.2 diesel come in? We don;t have a motor like that over here.

Redneck:

Thank you for all the help, the 4.2 L straight six diesel that we have comes in one of the F250 trucks that we have available in South Africa. It is a MWM multivalve engine and it is more fuel efficient. We have the 5 speed gearbox end we get on avarage around 10 to 11 km/l fuel consumption which is much better than the 3 speed with the 351 V8 it used to have in, that gave us around 4 to 5 km/l.
