I finally got some work done on the chassis. I reached a milestone today. Now it looks like something. The frame is roughed in and square. I can start building the hairpins and trailing arms now to finish mounting the axles. Here's what it looks like.
The middle crossmember is only tacked in and will more than likely get slid up the frame to clear the driveshaft under it.
I got to tinker around with this again. I started making the grill shell for it. It's turning out pretty good. I still have to make the bottom cross piece, weld the mounting studs in for the grill mesh, and drill the holes to mount it to the frame.
That is actually pretty close to what I'm aiming for. Both doors will open on this one and the back will be shaped a little different. My dad said he wanted a spot in back he could put his scooter in when he goes shopping. The rear door will fold down into a ramp so he can just drive the scooter in the back without having a problem.
I decided last night I'm going to radius the top of the grill shell to make it resemble a '23 a little closer. The peek at the top looks more like a '17. I'm gonna see about setting the engine and trans in the frame rails to mock up some engine mounts, too.
I got the top of the grill shell radiused and the bottom piece on. The bottom is narrow to leave room for the radiator mounts.
I got the engine and trans set into place so I could start building mounts.
I started pounding out the transmission crossmember, too. About an hour or a little less and I'll have it done.
Here's where I landed today. Yeah, I was makin' dust today. I need to buy a few things before I can go much further. Hopefully, my dad sends me the money he said he was going to.
