Hi guys, I've noticed on my Ex that the gear shift selector has a lot of movement/freeplay - It's when I go from park to any other gear, the gear I then select, I can move the lever up and down?
I've searched on here, and read about the 2 torx screws that can come loose, but I checked and they are tight - I can't see where else is loose? I took of the lower plastic cover under the steering wheel shaft, but can't get the top cover off to look in there as I don't know how to get the plastic ignition cap off (where the key goes in)
Any help appreciated It all works ok, just doesn't feel good!
To take that top cover off you must remove the ignition switch. There is a ball detent under the switch that will let you remove it. The key must be in the on position.
My old '02 Excursion was like that too. I checked the few things I read could be loose, but they were all tight. I just dealt with it until I sold it, because it never caused a problem. I like me some factory original tightness now though!
Mine does that too. To add insult to injury, one day I put it in park and heard something...and now the needle indicator in the dash is stuck on "Park"...broke the cable I think. That sucks, now its either count from park to get to whatever gear, or watch the CTS.
