I have plans on adding 3 aftermarket gauges to my '88 E250. I would like suggestions on the best place to mount them and pictures of ones mounted if possible. I know pillar guage pods are avialable for the trucks, but I haven't seen any for the vans. Thanks
Heres a setup i've seen in a Diesel van, sits right in the middle of the dash.
Drivers side on top of dash,
And I really like this setup. Very clean install in the center trim piece.
And heres my setup in my Van and same thing in the motorhome. I didn't wanna drill any holes in my dash so I used the 1 screw that holds that trim piece to hold my gauge.
Sorry I don't have a photo to share, but I've got 4 gauges mounted in a panel where the radio is supposed to go (Tach, Pyro, boost, tranny temp), and then I have the radio in an overhead console similar to where the cb is mounted in John's second photo.
the first 2 pics john posted there remind me of how i used to have the gages in my old LTD. the challenge with mounting them there is that you have to totally shroud them to prevent any light from leaking up onto the windshield and reflecting in your face at night.
other than that, i have a single gage mounted on the left side of the column, mirror image of john's 4th pic in that post. i think john said awhile back that he has his brake controller where i have my gage, but thats not important i guess
My brake controller sits low, so it doesn't bother anything. I do plan on adding a tranny temp gauge next summer, and will be putting it on the left side of steering column mounted the same way as my temp gauge, held in by 1 screw that also holds the wood grain trim.
If you find a triple pillar gauge pod for your van (I have the same year), send me a link. I've bought three different makes, all claiming they "fit," and none did. I ended up going with a "universal" pod, and I'm planning to trim it down because it's a lot wider than the stock pillar width.
