I'm hoping somebody here knows if it's possible to take an electronic crash sensor (located under the dash on the floor of the transmission hump) and passenger air bag from a 2000 crew cab 7.3 super duty and install them both into a 1999 crew cab 7.3 super duty without having to do any kind of ECS module configuration.
Hoping someone here has worked in a body shop and knows if this can be done. The ECS and pass. air bag are out of the same 2000 super duty and were obviously not deployed.
The following comes form the 2000 Ford F-super duty service manual:
NOTE: When a new ECS is first installed in the vehicle, module configuration must be carried out. If the ECS is incorrectly configured, erroneous DTC(s) will result.
If a new ECS is being installed, configure the ECS using a scan tool.
I don't know if the configuration they refer to only needs to take place when a brand new ECS is installed or just any ECS that was not originally installed into that truck?
I found the answer to my own question today when I spoke to a Ford service tech. today. You can install an ECS from another truck as long as it has the same airbag configuration it had in the original truck it came from (driver's side only or both driver's and passenger's side airbag configuration).
The Ford service manual says to configure the ECS when installing it new out of the box into a truck. Once it has been installed in a truck the first time, it will not need re-configuration.
