I have a question, hoping someone can clue me in. What is the piece directly under the drink holder (& next to the cigar lighter) used for?? It looks like some kind of hook. I drive several of these trucks at work they all have them and I cannot figure out what it's for! Probably something obvious that I've over-looked.
People have been asking that question ever since the superdutys came out. I think someone at Ford wanted to play a joke and see if anyone would ever use it.
Oh Boy, Here We Go Again. This has been one of those life long debated topics. Almost to the extent of, how did the ship get in the bottle? How many licks does it take to get to the center of the tootsie pop. Please don't take this as us picking on you. Your not the first to ask and you won't be the last. I would actually like to get a logical explanation from Ford.

where the hook is use to be an ash tray but was worthless,so they moved the ashtray up to the cup holder and put the hook there to cover the hole
"To bag or not to bag tis is the question Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
the trash and air fresheners on the floor, or to take arms against a sea of debris and hang them on the hook". Shakespeare was truly a man ahead of his time. And quite possibly a Ford guy too.

Like someone else mentione there was originally an ashtray in that location. But then they realized that a lot of people had to lean so far over to reach it that they could no longer see out the front window very well. This was very dangerous so they decided to move the ashtray up into the cup holder so you weren't leaning down as far.
Since the Ash tray was no longer there they had to come up with something to take up the space. A lot of cars have had trash bag hooks in them for years, so they decided to add one. The problem is you pretty much have to use the trash bags that are made specifically for cars, as they are very short and hang from the hook. If you try old grocery bags and stuff like that they end up sitting on the floor, and won't stay on the hook.
