I have a miss fire code on my (car). I know I know. Code says # 2 cyl miss fire. Garage switched over spark plug wires, spark plugs, injectors, replaced coil, o2 sensor it has 100,000 miles on it. It's a 2005 Neon. Is a compression test next? I had a Snap On dealer friend test for codes, it said miss fire #2, check for bad fuel, bad O2 front sensor. Would a dealer have a better code reader? Code goes away for weeks at a time????
Cylinder Balance DTM--SFI Engines Only.
I do not think you have SFI so I do not think you would have any code that says # 2 cyl miss fire.
Your Snap On dealer friend does not know that you can not run that test on your truck.
What codes do you have in CM?
After the shop did "some sort of work", did the car run poorly, better or
The same as before " some sort of work" was done.
Remember, disconnecting the neg. Battery cable is a must when working
On electrical/electronic parts.
You did say NEW plugs, wires, coil?
Ran great for a week.
I then disconnected the neg. battery cable and switched injectors. After an hour, rehook up battery and no more code for a week. I also switched sparkplug wires, no code for a week. Reset codes each time by unhooking battery for an hour. Switched sparkplug no code for a week.
2005 dodge neon obd2 1000,000. looks like things left to check from your list.
Switched locations or switched with brand new parts?
Make sure the contact/mounting points for the coil are clean.
Are ALL the plugs and wires NEW? No, I replaced wires and plugs last year.
I switched spark plug locations from cyclinder #1 and #2. Unhooked battery neg. cable for an hour and reread for codes. Drove for about a week then the same code came back. I switched sparkplug wires locations and about a week the same code came back. I switched injector location from cyl #1 and #2. About a week later the code came back. I added spark plug boot grease. Coil pack is brand new and clean. About a week later the code came back.
Subford, my currect code is a missfire on # 2 cyclinder. You won't believe this. I did a compression test on # 2 cyl. The reading matched the other cyclinders and the repair manual. Then it started spraying fuel out of the exhaust, along with tons of smoke. I shut it off and scanned for codes. Missfire on number two was gone and NOW #4 injected is stuck open. Could it be bad Engine Computer? Can a compression test trigger something on a engine computer, through the injector? Can a garage pro. scanner tell if a engine computer is bad? Thanks for any help.
