1982 f150 tail light problems

My tail lights and tag lite only work when i turn the turn signal on and none of the turn signals work. Brake lights only work this way as well, help.

Go to the rear and unplug the plug near the rear bumper. Clean the wires off and look for a brown wire. Get a testlight also. Turn the headlights on and then probe the brown wire with the testlight to see if you have power. If you do, then you have a wiring problem at the rear. If you don't, do your front markers work?

the headlights and front markers come on but the signals do not work, will have to wait till i get home to check the brown wire, will let u know

lights are working now, with the exception of turn signals, believe that to be switch in steering column. flashers work and also replaced both flashers for turn signals and hazard lights. thanks for the help
