My sons 1998 ranger 4.0 auto 4x4 has stock 265 75 15(10.5 x 31) tires and I want to put 235 75 15 winters on it when he gets his license in Febuary. How do I recalibrate the speedo?
I could be totally wrong, but I think the 235/75/15 are the stock tires. If so, you shouldn't need to do anything unless someone changed out the speedo gear in the past.
Take it out on the freeway at 60mph indicated, it should take one minute between milemarkers, or very close, with the 235's that is.
OOps, I just saw you're in BC, so, at 100kph, it should be around 37 seconds per klm marker. Or pretty close. If my math is correct.
you need to run for about 10 miles holding 60 mph and have a stop watch to cover the time it takes to go that far. There are some sites on the net that will do the math if you have the time and distance covered to tell ya what you were doing. Another way is to use a dash mounted GPS and correlate the 2, gps will be the most accurate.
