Hi Guys Quick Question. I think I may have a speedometer problem. I have a new GPS. It seems that the GPS is accurate to almost one foot in distance. It also has a speedometer. According to the GPS my trucks speedo is 3 mph slow. Also according to the GPS my odommeter is is 1/10 a mile off everytwo miles
I have new tires that are the same size and type that came with the truck so its not tire size that could be throwing off the speedo. As for the GPS itself I have 9 satilites following me so I think it is very accurate.
What do you think The trucks insterments off or the GPS off?
I think it is the trucks - I have read lots of posts that people's trucks are a lot closer to being right with 285/75 tires, instead of the stock 265/75's
I have been following a thread on TDS about this and it seams that you can either have an accurate Speedometer or an accurate Odometer but not both. You need to contact the tire manufacturer and get the "revs per mile" they spec for the particular tire you have then it appears to be a dealer only fix to recalibrate by entering the new RPM code.
For 285/75R16 tires enter 00636
For 295/75R16 tires enter 00626
For 305/70R16 tires enter 00630
For 315/75R16 tires enter 00601
There does not seem to be a whole lot of standards in the tire industry. Three manufacturers can make three different size tires that are marked as the same size, there can be an inch or more variation between them.
